Crisis Text Line is a global non-profit that provides free, 24/7, confidential text-based mental health support and crisis intervention. When a user texts for help, AI and machine learning algorithms triage the messages to prioritize those at the highest risk, such as individuals experiencing suicidal ideation. Live, trained volunteer crisis counselors then respond to the texts, helping users move from a "hot moment" to a "cool calm." The organization also uses its massive dataset to research mental health trends and improve the quality of crisis counseling through conversation simulators.
