Translate Without Borders

Translators Without Borders (now part of CLEAR Global) is a non-profit organization that provides language and translation support for humanitarian and development agencies worldwide. Recognizing that people cannot access life-saving services or exercise their rights if they cannot understand the information provided, TWB leverages AI to break down language barriers during crises. Their core technology includes Kató, a specialized translation platform that connects over 100,000 volunteer translators with humanitarian needs. TWB also develops "language data" and machine translation models for marginalized languages, such as Rohingya and Kanuri, ensuring that AI-driven translation is available to those who need it most. During the COVID-19 pandemic and the Ukraine crisis, TWB used AI to monitor and counter misinformation in dozens of local languages. By providing information in the right language and format, the organization ensures that humanitarian aid is more effective, inclusive, and dignified. TWB is a key player in the "Language for Good" movement, using technology to give a voice to the voiceless.
