About Kialo

Kialo is an online structured debate platform designed to facilitate rational, civil, and productive discussion on complex topics. Unlike traditional social media or comment threads, which can become confrontational and chaotic, Kialo uses a unique "argument map" system. Debates are structured as trees, where a central thesis or question is supported or refuted by various claims. Each claim can then have its own supporting or opposing arguments underneath it. This visual hierarchy allows participants to see and process the many facets of a competing claim without getting lost in personal attacks or repetition. The platform is used globally by educators, policymakers, and organizations for collaborative decision-making and critical thinking exercises. Kialo Edu, a version specifically designed for the classroom, helps students learn how to structure arguments with logic and evidence while practicing civility. With over 18,000 public debates and millions of arguments across 48 languages, Kialo represents the world’s largest source of structured "argument mining." It aims to provide an alternative to the "filter bubbles" of the internet by showing users the best arguments for and against any given point of view.
