Hugging Face
Repository for public good AI models.
About Hugging Face
Hugging Face is an open-source community and data science platform that provides tools which allow users to build, train, and deploy machine learning models based on open-source (OSS) code. Often referred to as the "GitHub of AI," it hosts over one million models, datasets, and applications (called "Spaces"). The platform is a central hub for the "AI for Good" movement, hosting specialized models for environmental monitoring, medical research, and low-resource language translation. In collaboration with UNESCO and Meta, Hugging Face recently launched a translator for 200 languages to support the International Decade of Indigenous Languages. It also spearheaded the BigScience initiative, a global collaboration that produced BLOOM, a 176-billion parameter multilingual large language model designed to be a transparent and accessible alternative to proprietary AI. By democratizing access to state-of-the-art AI technology, Hugging Face ensures that non-profits, researchers, and small organizations can leverage powerful computational tools that were previously only available to the largest tech companies.
