About PlantVillage

PlantVillage Nuru is an AI-powered diagnostic app developed by Penn State University to help farmers identify crop diseases and pests in real-time. The app works offline, allowing users in remote areas to point their phone's camera at a leaf to receive an instant diagnosis of conditions like cassava mosaic disease or fall armyworm. Nuru uses Google’s TensorFlow for machine learning and is linked to the PlantVillage library, the world's largest open-access repository of crop health knowledge. It aims to empower smallholder farmers, particularly in Africa and Southeast Asia, to improve food security and crop yields.
