Khan Academy

Khanmigo is an AI-powered personal tutor and teaching assistant developed by the nonprofit educational organization Khan Academy. Powered by OpenAI’s GPT-4, Khanmigo is designed to provide the benefits of one-on-one tutoring to every student. Unlike general-purpose AI chatbots, Khanmigo does not do the schoolwork for the student. Instead, it acts as a Socratic guide, asking questions to help students think through problems in math, science, and the humanities. It can also assume the role of historical figures or literary characters, allowing students to "chat" with George Washington or the Great Gatsby to deepen their understanding of a subject. For teachers, Khanmigo serves as a co-pilot that assists with drafting lesson plans, creating "lesson hooks" to engage students, and generating "exit tickets" to assess learning at the end of a class. The tool also includes a "Writing Coach" feature that supports students through every stage of the writing process—from brainstorming a thesis to revising a final draft—while providing teachers with detailed reports on the student's progress and academic integrity.
