Humane Intelligence
Community-led AI safety audits.
About Humane Intelligence
Humane Intelligence is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to breaking down barriers to artificial intelligence deployment for the public good. The organization focuses on making AI systems more accountable, responsible, and fair through collaborative design and rigorous evaluations. One of its flagship programs is the "Bias Bounty," a community-led challenge that invites researchers, impacted communities, and domain experts to examine and identify biases or failures in AI models and datasets. This model is inspired by "bug bounty" programs in cybersecurity, but applied to the social and ethical performance of machine learning systems. Humane Intelligence also conducts "Red Teaming" exercises, where experts simulate adversarial attacks or misuse cases to find vulnerabilities in AI safety protocols. Founded by Dr. Rumman Chowdhury, a pioneer in AI ethics, the organization emphasizes "Contextual Evaluations"—testing how AI performs in specific real-world cultural and societal settings rather than just in laboratory conditions. By empowering diverse stakeholders to audit AI systems, Humane Intelligence aims to ensure that technology serves humanity equitably and safely.
