Pl@ntNet
What it does: Citizen science platform for plant identification.
About Pl@ntNet
Pl@ntNet is a citizen science initiative and mobile application that uses artificial intelligence to help users identify plants from photographs. Developed by scientists from CIRAD, INRA, INRIA, and IRD, the tool allows users to photograph leaves, flowers, or fruits and receive instant species identifications. Each contribution helps enrich a global database used by researchers to monitor plant biodiversity and track the spread of invasive species. The platform currently recognizes over 20,000 species and employs a cooperative learning mechanism where expert users review and validate community observations, ensuring high data quality for both amateurs and professional botanists.
