About Librivox AI

LibriVox is a global, volunteer-led project dedicated to making all books in the public domain available as free audiobooks. Founded in 2005, the platform relies on a worldwide community of volunteers who record themselves reading classic fiction, non-fiction, and poetry that are no longer protected by copyright. These recordings are then released back into the public domain for free download. While the primary mission is human-centric, LibriVox has become an accidental "force multiplier" for AI development; its massive archive of over 24,000 audiobooks provides a diverse, multilingual dataset used to train automatic speech recognition (ASR) and text-to-speech (TTS) systems. The platform encourages accessibility by offering literature in over 40 languages and allowing any volunteer to contribute, regardless of their professional narration experience. It remains 100% free of charge and operates without advertisements or subscriptions.
